The story revolves around Sam Rothstein, a mafia member called (Ace). Sam is given an assignment to operate the Tangiers casino by the Chicago Outfit mob. The establishment’s CEO (frontman for the mafia) goes by the name Philip Gray, meanwhile. The proceeds are pocketed by the mafia before taxes, while Sam puts in the effort and makes the casino even more profitable.

In order to protect him and the casino skimming activity, Sam’s boss (Remo Gaggi) then assigns a security detail to Sam. Nicky Santoro (Sam’s friend from way back), Dominic Santoro (Nicky’s brother) and Frankie Marino are included in the security detail.

Sam falls for a stripper named Ginger McKenna later on. With her husband, Lester Diamond, Ginger has a problematic past and an abusive relationship. Despite them having a daughter together the relationship between Lester and Ginger soon places Sam’s relationship with Ginger on the rocks. Later on, Sam agrees to divorce Ginger, who then flees to England with her daughter.

The film ends with Sam surviving Nicky’s assassination attempt. After a fight with Sam, Ginger dies of a drug overdose. After orders from the mafia, Nicky and Dominic are targeted. They’re roughed up in shallow graves and buried alive. Sam retires, and the casinos are purchased by multimillion-dollar companies.

The movie, based on a true story, built its plot around the real life of Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, who operated the Chicago casinos. Between 1970 and 1980, he operated three casinos: Stardust, Fremont and Hacienda.
